Controversy at Wikipedia…

You might think from the amount of time Tom and I have spent discussing Wikipedia, that we are decidely against it. This is not true, and in fact, we use it ourselves sometimes. However, I can’t help but bring to your attention the current controversy surrounding the site. Take a look at this article and consider how appropriate a source like Wikipedia is for academic research.

The reason we continue to bring these stories to your attention is because it relates directly to the concept of information literacy. Our goal is to help students achieve a high degree of information literacy, by which the student is capable and comfortable in analyzing and critiquing the veracity of various information sources. This is a skill that will not only serve you well in academics, but in life in general. Do you want to further develop your information literacy skills. Take a look at our tutorials page!
